Test Description and clinical significance

Probes
(1p36.31/1q25.3 & 19p13.3/19q13.32-q13.33 & 10q23.2-q23.31/10p11.1-q11.1)

Disease:
Brain cancer

Deletions of the 1p36 and 19q13 region genes are seen in glial tumors. Concurrent deletion of the 1p36 and 19q13 regions are prognostic factors as they are associated with improved prognosis and responsiveness to therapy. PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10) is a tumor suppressor gene and is mutated in a large number of cancers. PTEN deletions in brain tumors are common and related to poor prognosis.
