Test Description and clinical significance

Disease:
Colorectal cancer resulting from familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)

The IHC Beta Catenin test is a test that is used to detect mutations in the gene Beta Catenin. Beta Catenin is a protein that helps in the generation, development and differentiation of cells. It also helps in cell adhesion and the development of the embryo. When there are alterations in beta-catenin degradation, it accumulates to a sufficient extent to be detected in the nuclei of tumor cells immunohistochemically, a feature that can be exploited in the differential diagnosis of selected neoplasms.
