Test Description and clinical significance
Disease:
HPV associated anogenital lesions, head and neck carcinoma
p16 is a tumor suppressor protein that is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor and is essential in regulating the cell cycle. p16 inactivates cyclin-dependent kinases that phosphorylate Rb; therefore p16 can decelerate the cell cycle.
